My first post on the blog, so as Mary Poppins once wisely said: 'let's start at the very beginning; it's a very good place to start'!
Snowbunting was born after a visit to Copenhagen, during which I salivated in the home accessories shops, looked goggle-eyed at the designs in the hotels and restaurants, and became insanely jealous at the chic-yet-wearable clothing on the streets. Everyone seemed friendly, and - more importantly - everyone seemed very content. I'd heard of 'hygge' - reportedly the reason for the high levels of happiness enjoyed in Denmark, and once I was home I did more research in the hope that there was more to it than candles and coffee.
I found that the Danes - and other Nordic countries - spend lots of time in their houses, which they like to make into a nest of cosy contentment. Surrounding themselves with simply designed functional accessories, a night spent at home with friends and family playing board games or sharing a hearty meal seems to be the epitome of the hygge concept.
After several years selling gifts via Ebay and Etsy, I decided that now was the time to branch out; and from this the concept of Snowbunting evolved. We stock home accessories and gifts that will hopefully make you happy (and at prices that will make your bank manager even happier!).
The blog will accompany our products - it will be an eclectic mix of recipes, craft ideas, travel writing, and general ramblings on related topics. I'd very much like you to join the extended Snowbunting family and join us on our journey.
