Pantone Colour of the Year 2022 - Very Peri

To those working in fashion, beauty, design – and of course interiors – the announcement of the Pantone Colour of the Year is a Very Big Deal.  The colour selected is not only supposed to reflect the mood of the moment, but to influence future colour choices on a variety of items: from wallpaper to t-shirts; from eye shadow to shop design; from hotel menus to the colours of the fonts on your favourite websites.

This year the colour chosen is a new shade that has been especially designed to reflect ‘this altered landscape of possibilities, and opens us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives’ (yes, the press release really does say that).   We present Very Peri, a periwinkle bluey purple that you will probably be seeing on a wall near you very soon.

The PR-speak doesn’t stop there.   Very Peri is a colour whose ‘courageous presence encourages personal inventiveness and creativity’, and which ‘displays a carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit’.  Just in case we haven’t got the message, it also ‘symbolises the zeitgeist of the moment’.  There are pages more of this, but I’ll spare you the rest.

So……if you like the look of Very Peri – and it is a very pretty colour that reminds us of some of our favourite flowers – how can you incorporate it into your home?  Several interior designers have suggested that it will pair well with white, black, tangerine, and ‘earthy green’; and if (like so many of us) you currently have pale grey walls, then this is a shade that will work really well as an accent colour.  Cushions, lampshades, and artwork are a quick way to add the shade, while those of you with bigger ambitions (and budgets) might opt for repainting a wall, buying some new curtains, or treating yourself to a new set of bed linen.

We were at a Home Trade Show last week, and have yet to see Very Peri trickle down into the interiors showrooms we visited…..but we will keep an eye out and let you know the minute we add the colour to our store.

What do you think?  Will Very Peri be a colour that – like grey, navy, and mustard – continues to be popular beyond 2022?  Or will it be a Very short-lived trend?
